Nokia E5 and Mail for exchange (Gmail -Sync Contacts)

The other day we decided to "upgrade" from Nokia E71 to E5. E71 gets crappy and hangs when emails go beyond a certain limit. So we bought E5. Problem is, with E5, Mail for exchange which we use to sync contacts with gmail accounts is not straight forward. So here are my woes and how to overcome them:

NOKIA E5 - Mail for exchange
  • Create a new Email For Exchange account with the Gmail Instructions. 
    • We only wanted to sync contacts since we use MDaemon for our mails. 
  • When the account is created, got to the new mail box settings and choose what to sync. Select Email NO. That stops you from syncing your Gmail emails. 
  • To sync contacts, go to Email-Setting-Personal Information Manager-Applications-Contacts and select YES. Set the initial sync option to your liking and then you can freely exit that menu. This will allow sync with your Gmail contacts.

Personally I had to switch off my phone and on again for it to start syncing the contacts and oh, what a wonderful feeling to see the contacts flowing in.

    I have no problems with sync. But my Mail for Exchange shows only a PARTIAL list of folders under the "Inbox". How do I get ALL folders?

    I tried contacts sync and it worked. But it synced all my contacts. I have some contacts under a label. I want to sync that specific contacts. How to do that

    more easily is via your own sync (same as you use for PCsuite). Set up an extra sync profile, at least for contacts (calendar i sync over outlook and google calendar sync. See, although a bit different then explaned, on http://support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=98230 it will provide you with a working solution. Contacts sync over wifi (she doesn't have a mobile internet subscription) and agenda over bluetooth. Overall here infrastructure is now: pc outlook, mainly for bu and sync of agenda// pc google calendar sync// nokia E5 as main device for using and editing contacts and calendar// Google webmail on cloud//Ipod touch for mobile wifi . everything is synced and in sync. took me a few months......because a lot of suggestions are vapourware

    Wanna keep your Nokia E5 from using your cellular data when there's a perfectly good WIFI network that you can use within range?

    On your Nokia E5 you'll have to list your preferred connections in a priority list.

    MENU -- CONTROL PANEL -- SETTINGS -- CONNECTION -- DESTINATIONS -- INTERNET

    You will find a list of all the wireless access points you've ever connected to, as well as the GPRS/3G profiles you use when you use your cellular airtime/data bundles

    Start deleting all the redundant WLANs (Options -- Delete), until you only see your home/office WLAN access point in that list as well as your GPRS/3G

    Now place your WLAN access point as the first priority (Options -- Organise -- Change Priority)

    Hooray! Now whenever you enter the range of your home/Office WLAN, your Nokia E5 will automatically switch to its highest priority connection and disconnect from the GPRS/3G and vice versa when you leave the WLAN range.

    I had gmail synchronization proble on my Nokia E5. Problem was solved by disabling to-do sync. E-mail, Contacts and Caledar are synchronized.
